An Onancock woman who police say robbed an Onley church at gunpoint on Wednesday, May 24 has been denied bond, according to Accomack Sheriff Todd Godwin.

Police say 52-year-old Bertisha Rose Johnson entered St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Onley around 12:18 p.m. on May 24 wearing black clothing, and robbed a victim of an undisclosed amount of money.

Johnson fled the church on foot, police say, but was later arrested after warrants for robbery, abduction and use of a firearm were issued.

Police say Johnson is incarcerated in the Accomack County Jail with bond denied.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Onley Police Department, Virginia State Police and Onancock Police Department.
